California Clipper

We set out to preserve the historic bar's original charm and make guests feel like they were stepping into another time.

The Clipper’s remaining furniture was refurbished, and some new pieces were added that were in keeping with that retro aesthetic – mostly vintage but with a few newly-purchased items that were made to look old. We kept the Clipper’s iconic red lighting but layered in a few new fixtures, including ones salvaged from a recently-shuttered corner bar built in the 1920s.

On the lounge side, a custom sapele wood bar, inspired by the tavern side’s original bar, was installed and lit by fixtures inspired by the building’s history as a theater.  The flooring was restored, millwork was freshly painted and a new custom drink rail was built to tie into existing window ledges.
